ABSTRACT

“Eco-agriculture” is the term used in China for “agroecology practice.” Agricultural research shows that soil moisture content should be maintained at around 70 to 80% of field capacity to meet the crop’s normal growth and development needs. Oasis agriculture, also known as irrigation agriculture, is an agricultural production approach using irrigation facilities in accordance with crop growing periods and agricultural production levels in arid desert regions. The shortage of irrigation water resources is becoming more serious in the northwestern arid region of China. Agriculture in the oasis regions with inland rivers in Northwest China totally relies on glacier and snowmelt, as well as precipitation from the upper reaches of mountains in the catchments. Special agricultural products such as cotton, hops, processing tomatoes, grapes, Chinese wolf-berry, melons, and fruits produced in the oasis region are very important in China, and even to the world.
