ABSTRACT
Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are DNA double-strand viruses that exhibit tropism for cells of the stratified squamous epithelium and that are associated with several cutaneous or mucosal benign and malignant lesions. To date, more than 100 different types of HPV have been identified. 1 Transmission may be direct or indirect. The most common clinical manifestations of HPV infection are represented by cutaneous and genital warts.
