ABSTRACT

Land cover (LC) and land use (LU) monitoring is utilized at all political levels, from local to global. It proceeds from various motivations, is based on many approaches, and shows a large range of sophistication and longevity. The resulting diverse landscape analyses and assessments generate a range of issues regarding the compatibility of data, the access conditions, the topical focus, and so forth, requiring that the many actors involved join forces and collaborate. Their data must, at least to a degree, be compatible so they can be shared, exchanged, and used for long periods of time, all of which will create added value to data produced for one purpose and make it possible to use them for many more.
