ABSTRACT

Quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) have been key elements of the European CoORdination of Information on the Environment (CORINE) Land Cover (CLC) projects since the early days of CLC inventories (Heymann et al., 1994; Bossard et al., 2000). We distinguish two different QA/QC activities:

1. Verification has a corrective purpose and is implemented as part of production. Through its feedback loops, verification is a tool for geometric standardization and thematic harmonization of CLC throughout Europe.
