ABSTRACT

The most frequently expressed user criticisms regarding CoORdination of Information on the Environment (CORINE) Land Cover (CLC) are that (1) databases are not detailed enough; (2) classes of nomenclature contain a mixture of land cover (LC) and land use (LU) information (Arnold and Kosztra, 2013); (3) some of the classes (e.g., mixed agriculture) are difficult to translate to other systems, for example, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Land Cover Classification System (FAO LCCS) (Herold et al., 2009); and (4) CLC data cannot be used for statistical comparisons with other surveys (Sjolbørg Flo Heggem et al., 2010).
