ABSTRACT

Trace and toxic metals, commonly called heavy metals, in wetland soils and sediments can be of concern because of their potential toxicity. Numerous sources of heavy metals are entering wetland environments. Wetland soils and sediments have unique properties that can influence metal distribution reactivity, mobility, and toxicity. This chapter focuses on the physiochemical properties of the wetland soil that govern the transformations of heavy metals in wetland soils and sediments.
