ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some of the most important results obtained in adaptive optics (AO) visual testing, together with some important aspects of the required technology. AO visual testing provides the most powerful tool for the design of new optical solutions to correct our vision from refractive problems. The larger tolerance of vision when retinal images are degraded in a particular direction might be due to a kind of adaptation of the visual system to its own aberrations. AO visual testing can help to optimize new solutions and aids to correct vision with no need of real patients either true manufacturing or implantations of optical corrections. AO visual testing allowed studying the problem without the necessity of implantation of any intraocular lens (IOL). The incorporation of spherical aberration correction in the IOL could render a better image in the best plane for distant vision, impairing vision at any other closer distance more severely than the natural phakic eye.
