ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This chapter explores the concepts surrounding the rescue of persons after a fall from height in the workplace. Emphasis is placed on workplaces where employees are actively engaged in work at height using any manner of fall protection. It is the duty of the employer to prepare for such incidents and the duty of the employee to follow the employer’s plan for both avoiding and reacting to falls from height. Solutions and resources are presented for consideration toward rescue planning, including established guidelines from existing standards and published materials. Recommendations for means and methods for personal escape, coworker-assisted rescue, and professional rescue are made using known incidents having successful outcomes.
