ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This chapter summarizes the rapidly emerging field of fall forensics. This field of consulting is really no different in its scientific and engineering methodologies from other applications, including perceptual-cognitive and biomechanical elements, with the sole exception being its application to the legal process, typically premises liability civil litigation. Some important terminology unique to forensics is covered, followed by a discussion of the process by which the forensic consultant is engaged to perform their work and the various generic tasks comprising that work. The chapter concludes with four actual case examples demonstrating such analyses as applied to the four most important types of falls in need of prevention.
