ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT One of the most hazardous sectors within the construction industry is the roofing industry. In this industry, falls from roof are the primary event source leading to fatal/nonfatal injuries. Research has shown that fall-prevention training is an effective measure to ensure that standard prevention practices are followed. However, standard prevention practices are poor among roofing subcontractors. To prevent falls through effective fall-protection training, in this chapter, we introduce two case studies that attempted to understand the deficiencies of the fall-prevention methods in the field and the field training needs among residential roofing subcontractors. The results of the two studies provide insight into the design of safety training interventions.
