ABSTRACT

Based on the experiences of the authors own research (in terms of geotechnical and geological aspects), within this paper many results are presented based on statistical analysis, that represent solid foundation for defining the subject rock masses from multiple aspects. 1371 examples of anisotropic rocks were incorporated in 162 results from laboratory tests expressed by the rock strength index, which is a contribution to the systematization of data that can further serve as a basis for future scientific and practical analysis. These results were used as input parameters in various stability analysis of concrete deep cut section (H > 50 m), built from anisotropic rock masses with low quality. The results of the stability analyses, specifically the presented methods for stabilization and protection of the slopes, will demonstrate a comprehensive and clear picture of the correct selection of an optimal solution in technical and especially economic terms.
