ABSTRACT

Frost damage due to freeze-thaw cycles causes deterioration of concrete structures in cold regions, where the amount of using de-icing agent and the chloride ion accumulation have damaged the concrete structures. Especially, in terms of the maintenance for concrete roads subjected to severe chloride environment due to dispersal of de-icing agents during winter time. To simulate freeze-thaw environment on the surface of concrete structure in real situation, which shows severe damage in cold region as mentioned, it is necessary to prepare experimental methodology to induce two-dimensional chloride ion penetration and icing behavior on top and side surface of concrete, such as bridge column. Also, this research aimed to two-dimensionally calculate chloride ion ingress and make clear that corrosion behavior of steel bars under freeze-thaw and chloride ion environment.
