ABSTRACT

Visual inspection of the bridge is performed by that an inspection person strikes a bridge with a hammer on the special bridge inspection vehicle or scaffolding. This method is required in order to ensure inspection. But, this method is inefficient and high expense. The local government which turns into a subject of inspection, is in the situation where the budget of inspection cannot fully be secured from financial difficulties. This research shows that the effect and subject which carry out bridge inspection using UAV. Additionally, the monitoring methodology is developed in this research and the results of the actual proof experiment are reported. UAV is a small pilotless plane in which operation and photography are possible in remote control. Although the usual UAV hovers using GNSS, but the signal of GNSS cannot receive under a bridge easily. Therefore, UAV which does not use GNSS was used in this research. Normal digital cameras, all the circumference cameras and an infrared camera were used for the camera used for inspection. All the circumference cameras can photo a bridge from various directions by photography once. An infrared camera observes the wavelength which cannot be seen in viewing of man. The researches which investigated degradation of concrete were reported using the infrared camera. In this research, the crack of concrete, the rust of steel materials, and the situation of the bolt were able to be checked using a digital camera and all the circumference cameras. Since verification has not been completed yet, the inspection by an infrared camera needs to inquire continuously. Although the monitoring methodology was proposed in this research, it cannot check about all inspection items by the proposed method. Therefore, it is expected that this methodology will be utilized as primary screening for defining the priority of diagnosis and investigation of a bridge.
