ABSTRACT

This paper presents a comprehensive literature review on the experimental and analytical research results on the transport-degradation behavior of concrete including the coupled transport processes, the coupled transport-deterioration processes. The paper also identifies areas for additional research. These include refining the transport models to account for the cracking, developing model-based simulation for the transport-degradation behavior and finally validating these simulations by experimental measurements. This research will ultimately lead to the development of a degradation function that can be applied in computational tools for performance-based design of new structures or to predict the remaining service-life of existing structures.
