ABSTRACT

For a few years, dynamic monitoring of structures (using sensors like velocimeters or accelerometers) has shown its usefulness in the appraisal of the mechanical behavior of existing structures (buildings, bridges, dams, industrial assets…) and the optimization of their maintenance. Due to the recent advances in miniaturization and integration of sensors, a permanent, complete, and low-cost monitoring of most structures can be now envisaged. This paper aims to list the main uses and benefits expected.
