ABSTRACT

The Netherlands is changing its national skid resistance measurement method for the Side Way Force method, an international method already used in nine European countries and four countries outside Europe. This change is foreseen per 2017. For a smooth transition, a project has been started to perform all the necessary actions. Part of this project is an agreement with the German federal highway research institute (BASt) for the quality assurance of the method but also comparative measurements during 2016. These measurements will be performed with both measurement methods to determine the conversion between the two and to define new threshold values. This paper will discuss the considerations for the change, the activities that have been executed, are in execution and are planned for the coming period.
