ABSTRACT

The number of monitoring pilots in Dutch civil infrastructure with sensing systems is increasing only slowly over the last decade. To identify and help understand barriers for wider implementation of monitoring systems, SBRCURnet-committee 1992 analysed 13 monitoring pilots. The committee consisted of 16 Dutch infrastructure owners, practitioners and researchers. Emphasis was put on matching the needs of infrastructure owners and the technical readiness of monitoring systems for (wide-scale) implementation. To do so, a Monitoring Guidance Tool in the form of a flow chart was used. This paper summarizes the results of the analysis and concludes on the value of the Guidance Tool for stimulating wider implementation of monitoring systems in civil infrastructure.
