ABSTRACT

Understanding infrastructure asset performance parameters, the way that these may be affected, and the forecasting of their behaviour, are key issues for asset management decision-making. These parameters provide crucial information for sound investment decision-making, for example, when renewing life-expired assets or defining maintenance strategies, amongst others, are at stake. Though some performance parameters are typically monitored (e.g. condition rating), there is the need to develop a decision-oriented framework that enables the ongoing collection, analysis and evaluation of infrastructure asset performance in a systematic way. This paper presents a proposal for such framework, providing examples of their applicability in road and railway administrations bodies.
