ABSTRACT

In this paper, the axial force differential equation of corroded reinforcing steel was established, in which the bond-slip relationship between concrete and corroded reinforcing steel was considered. A section coordination coefficient was then suggested for reflecting the effect of the bond-slip relationship deterioration on the degradation of the flexural rigidity of corrosion-affected RC beam. Based on these investigations, an empirical formula for predicting the flexural rigidity of corrosion-affected RC beam developed from the existing models was proposed. The predictions of the proposed empirical formula were found to be in close agreement with the experimental results published in the literatures, which provides useful tools for predicting the flexural rigidity of corrosion-affected RC beams in marine environment.
