ABSTRACT

The cathodic protection method is an effective countermeasure for enhancing the durability of reinforced concrete structures under a severe corrosion environment. In this study, the influence of each factor on the cathodic protection effect was examined separately using a simulated reinforced concrete specimen. The target factors were soundness of the steel bar, thickness of the polymer cement mortar and degree of saturation of the cover concrete. The influence of the resistance of overlay mortar on the cathodic protection effect was investigated by changing the thickness of the overlay mortar or adding lithium hydroxide to the polymer overlay mortar. The results clarified that decreasing the resistance of the polymer mortar improved the cathodic protection effect.
