ABSTRACT

In this paper, a new damage localization method is proposed based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and derivation of intrinsic mode function (IMFs) of measured displacements of beam under moving load. The static responses (displacement) of some joints are measured when a moving load with specific velocity is traveling on the beam. Intrinsic mode functions of displacement are evaluated using EMD. The derivation of IMFs are obtained and damage location is determined by comparing of IMFs derivation graphs of damaged and undamaged data. A finite element model of two spans concrete beam is created to consider the efficiency and accuracy of proposed method. The variation of beam deformation in 6 joints are obtained from finite element analysis when the moving load is traveling on the beam. The damage location in 2 scenarios are localized. The results demonstrate the second IMF derivation can be localize the damage with acceptable accuracy.
