ABSTRACT

An extension of the probability density evolution method (PDEM) for assessing the reliability of deteriorating complex structures is proposed. This extension is important for the purpose of maintaining the reliability of structures that requires inspections and repairs to ensure life-cycle performance. The basic extension involves Bayesian updating of the probability distribution parameters of complex structures requiring application of the PDEM. The necessary Bayesian update of the PDEM is briefly described and applied to a few examples illustrating the specific applications to several infrastructure systems.
