ABSTRACT

Child abuse is a disturbing and important subject – an area where we all have an important part to play. Safeguarding children and promoting their welfare are central to the National Service Framework (NSF). There are important underlying goals of the NSF in respect of child protection. Promoting partnership between professionals and parents and children is vital to child protection. Driving up standards: professional standards relating to child protection are notoriously variable and have been the subject of much criticism. The Green Paper Every Child Matters sets out the proposed organisational, educational and cultural changes to deliver the vision of the NSF. Child protection is a part of safeguarding children and cannot be separated out from family support. Instigating child protection in primary care will not work without each of us playing our part. Child abuse is disturbing and it is easier to look away.
