ABSTRACT
Perineal injury is inherent in childbirth, and various methods and materials have been used by accoucheurs in an attempt to restore perineal integrity. Surgical treatment in the form of a crossed or bootlace suture was first mentioned in avicenna's famous arabic book. However, the first recorded perineal suture was by guillemeau in 1610 [1].
