ABSTRACT

A1 C The most common cystic lesions of the kidneys overall are simple cysts, which occur in 25%–33% of the population over 50 years of age. Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), a genetically determined disease, with an incidence of 1 in 1250 live births, is the most common genetic cystic disease. Malignant cysts are rare. Developmental cysts such as multicystic dysplastic kidneys (MCDKs) are uncommon and sporadic. Acquired renal cysts are usually seen in patients on dialysis.
