ABSTRACT
(Note from Elaine Hanzak – I am an advocate of MBUs as I was hospitalised without my baby son and consequently forced to stop breastfeeding instantly. I still feel this loss 19 years later and now realise that it could have made my illness much worse. At that time as a family, we did not know such a facility existed. I have become increasingly aware that many healthcare professionals are also unaware of them. Hence I felt that I wanted to include MBUs in this book as they could be very useful for parents contemplating another pregnancy if they have suffered a previous mental illness associated with pregnancy.)
