ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the approaches that have been used to deliver radiotherapy education to a range of professionals who work in the arena of cancer and palliative care. The Department of Health and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) have produced guidance reports relating to specific cancers. The NICE guidance reports include the suggestion that multi-disciplinary teamworking is vital for improving the experience of cancer patients. Traditionally, training and education in healthcare have been very profession specific, with little if any shared learning or education about the role of other professions. One problem with multi-professional education is assessing the level of delivery. Some practitioners will already have completed some post-registration education or have been working in the cancer and palliative care arena for some time, sometimes to the level of specialist practitioner. As stated in the introduction to the module, the range of specialties of the students taking the module will enable group discussion.
