ABSTRACT
In the United Kingdom or, more specifically, in England, two specialist units for male prisoners with serious personality disorder were set up at the beginning of the twentyfirst century, in high-security settings. These are based at Frankland and Whitemoor prisons, where they benefited from considerable research in their early years. In addition, a much smaller equivalent facility for female prisoners was started a few years later, at Low Newton prison. All of this happened originally under the auspices of the DSPD (Dangerous and Severe Personality Disorder) program. New facilities were also set up at the same time in the high secure hospital system (see Chapter 104).
