Torture knows no boundaries, neither in time nor in place. It  has been used at all times, and according to a 2009 Amnesty International Report,1 50% of all countries use torture and 57% detain prisoners unjustly, and human right breaches still take place in about 150 countries around the world.2 Torture has been used by all types of authorities including military, judicial, and political authorities and been justified in the name of politics, religion, ethnicity, ideology, and so on.
