ABSTRACT

The burden of smoking remains exponential in both financial and societal costs. Smoking remains the most preventable cause of chronic long-term conditions, premature death and generic ill health. In spite of the numerous campaigns and health warnings the prevalence of smoking remains a concern. One in five adults over the age of 16 continue to smoke; as a direct result over 200,000 men and women die each year due to smoking-related issues (Health and Social Care Information Centre [HSCIC], 2014a).
