ABSTRACT

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a noninvasive therapy with proven efcacy in nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and several additional indications including photorejuvenation. PDT involves the activation of a photosensitizing drug by visible light to produce activated oxygen species within target cells, resulting in their destruction or modication, accompanied by host inammatory and immune responses; the relative contribution of these processes to the therapeutic effect depends on treatment indication.
