ABSTRACT

E-health focuses its attention to improve patient-centered care, implementing share decision making; computer-assisted diagnosis and therapy delivered through telemedicine, e-consultations, remote multidisciplinary second-opinion diagnosis; advanced information systems through the scheduling of electronic medical appointments and medical prescriptions; and virtually limitless storage of medical information and its fast, efcient retrieval. E-health aims at reducing medical costs, reducing medical errors, and improving quality of care. Its main instruments are electronic medical records (EMRs), advanced clinical decision support systems, and secure private medical information exchange. E-health is already playing a major role in the extremely complex medical world, providing advanced information platforms; rapid and efcient transfer of clinical, laboratory, and digital imaging data; and avoiding unnecessary duplication of expensive efforts.
