ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes by examining the effects of the bereavement of a child on the remaining sibling(s). The death of a child brings about a multitude of emotions for families, communities and health care professionals. Both negative and positive effects are discussed. Support for bereaved siblings is also a focus of this section, highlighting the needs for age-appropriate support structures such as sibling support groups, as well as family supports, all of which are necessary to facilitate the grieving process.
