ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION A wide range of parasitic infections can affect the central and, to a lesser extent, the peripheral nervous and muscle systems of man and cause clinical disease. Some of them latently infect the nervous system, and only if immunosuppression supervenes do they become clinically evident, so only a minority of those infected actually develop disease (so-called opportunistic infections).
