ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Neuroepithelial tumours of the pineal region are rare, accounting for less than 1 per cent of primary central nervous system (CNS) tumours. They include pineal parenchymal tumours (PPTs), glial tumours and papillary tumour of the pineal region (PTPR), the latter described as a novel neoplasm in this region.40 The neuroglial cyst (pineal cyst) is a frequent non-neoplastic lesion of the pineal gland that needs to be distinguished from pineal tumours, particularly pineocytomas.
