ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the design of the second Dutch National Survey of General Practice (DNSGP-2) and its methods of data collection and data analyses. It provides a short introduction into the research questions that have guided the design and measurements. The chapter also describes the recruitment of the participating practices, the patient population, the data collection modules and measurements. It deals with issues such as the representativeness, the statistical power of the study, and the comparability of the second and the first Dutch National Surveys of General Practice. At first, practices already participating in the Dutch National Information Network of General Practice (LINH) were invited to participate in the DNSGP-2. The general practitioners (GPs) participating in the survey were, in most relevant aspects, representative of the Dutch GP population, e.g. sex, age, part-time/full-time working, urbanisation level of the practice location and geographical distribution.
