ABSTRACT

Michelle, a nurse at Tickhill Road Hospital who died of cancer, taught the author a lot about life and how to live it. Over the years, he reflected on how she has lived her life with cancer. Through knowing Michelle, he had come to look at life in a completely new way and she has taught him quite a number of things. When he asked her, for instance, if she feared death, she would tell him: why fear a cycle – that is the way of nature and it is exactly what should happen. They talked about how they have been conditioned in their mind-dominated Western world to overstress the apparent separateness of things in life. This concept is very practical for everyday living, but it needs to be balanced by an awareness of an underlying reality, which holds everything together. After all we live in a universe. There is an oneness that gives life to everything that is.
