ABSTRACT

The conflict between management and community at tourist destination often occur because of different vision and perception of Community Based Tourism (CBT). This study was conducted to determine perception differences between management and community on CBT. An independent-samples t-test was conducted to compare the perception differences between 70 community respondents and 31 managers/staffs. The study was carried out in Ciwidey, West Java, Indonesia. The results showed that there were perception differences in 7 out of 10 variables. For the community, the CBT program should provide an immediate impact to the economy and welfare rise. While for the managers, they often consider CBT program merely as a management requirement, without further evaluate whether the positive impacts are in conformity with the initial purpose. The role of local government is very important in terms of bridging the gap between the two in achieving the mutual goal of sustainable tourism development.
