ABSTRACT

Landslides distribution and activity, prevalence of the particular types of slope processes depend on the environmental conditions, which are quite variable over the entire territory of Russia: orographic conditions, climatic conditions, and geological conditions. Landslides are spread quite nonuniformly over the territory of the Russian Federation. Slowly changing factors, such as modern tectonic movements, secular climate variations recorded by century- and decade-long observations determine modern general tendencies in landslides evolution. Landslide size and activity at any particular area are determined by natural factors characterized by annual cycle, which, in turn, depend on long-term variations and rhythms caused by solar cycles in particular. Types of slope deformations and scale of their development depend on the slow changing zonal-geological factors characterized by long-term variations and on rapidly changing factors changing annually. Study of the climate variations typical of the Tomsk region showed that significant change of the climatic conditions occurred at the end of the 1970s–beginning of the 1980s.
