ABSTRACT

Early policing in Western Australia (WA) was modeled on the British system of policing. Consequently, colonial Australia “established a militaristic style of command” (Findlay, 2004: 21) that the “professional method” and managerialism later replaced (Holdaway, 1983: 158-159; Findlay, 2004: 136-140). e Commissioner of Police, Dr. Karl O’Callaghan, stated in the WA Police Strategic Plan (2010-2013) that WA Police “will move towards a more business-orientated model over the coming years.”
