ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The aim of the article is to focus on describing the relations of stress inside the sandwich composite structure according to the test conditions. This type of structure is composed of two or more layers having different material and mechanical properties. Abrupt changes of these properties causes interlaminar stress in the structure. A good knowledge about the behavior of sandwich composite structures is important for efficient manufacture techniques, long-term prediction of behavior and also for economics. The experimental test specimens have been made from three layers-outer layers and a core. Test specimens have been loaded by means of a three point bending test. Fiber-optic strain gauges, SOFO SMARTape Compact deformation sensors, have been used for long-time monitoring of total strain in sandwich composite structure. Experimentally obtained data have been used for the creation of a mathematical model of stress inside the sandwich composite structure according to the temperature.
