ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Adhesive connections offer a number of benefits in structural applications, especially in the case of brittle adherends such as glass. This paper reports on an experimental analysis aimed at determining the mechanical characteristics of the two types of the same acrylate adhesive product (a new technology adhesive and its predecessor), both produced by the same manufacturer. The adhesive connections were applied in planar connections under shear loading. Finite element analysis shows that it is necessary to use different material models for the two types of adhesive, due to their completely different mechanical properties and behavior under loading. The numerical analysis deals with the application of various material models used for modelling the old and the new types of acrylate adhesives, and provides a comparison of numerical and experimental results.
