ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This paper presents the analysis of a 27-story steel frame tall building under seismic loads according to Eurocode 3. The selected building is located in Izmir, Turkey, that is a high seismic region. To understand this behavior under earthquake loads, a Finite Element Model of the building is created using SAP2000. The structural system is composed of steel frame with concentric bracing system to control the horizontal displacement under earthquake loads. The results from two different bracing configurations are presented, in particular X-braced and K-braced frames, and they are used in order to understand which solution is more effective in reducing the inter-story drift displacement. A non-linear time history analysis is performed to evaluate the inter-story drift considering a spectrum compatible earthquake with a return period of 150 years.
