ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This paper describes an approach for determining the size of the movement of an action member of an adaptive tensegrity module in the form of a double symmetrical pyramid. The module is formed by thirteen members-four top and four bottom pre-stressed cables, four edge compressed struts and one centrally positioned compressed strut which is designed as the action member. Elongation or contraction of the action member allows a level of pre-stressing or tensile forces in the cables to be controlled in order to meet selected reliability criteria (such as maximum and minimum tensile forces in the cables).
