ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In this paper simple beam structures of double span footbridges are presented. Those are the objects that are not distinguished by sophisticated form or a design scheme. Despite that, field test done by authors shown that these structures are also sensitive to the dynamic effects. The aim of this paper is to draw attention of designers to the problems associated with dynamics of simple beam footbridges in which it is strongly recommended to use a modal analysis at the design stage. Its results can be used in planning activities aimed at improving the durability and comfort of the structure. As an example four similar double span composite structures had been chosen. All of them were tested under static and dynamic loads by authors. Results are presented and discussed.
