ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The article compares results of strain measurements performed by using two methods: contactless and traditional. Two destructive tests were conducted, each on brick prism cut from brick wall made in the laboratory. The Ist method was based on traditional Linear Variable Differential Transformers (LVDT), while the IInd method was based on optical measurement (aimed to extend the scope of information on the behaviour of the tested fragment of the structure). The optical measurement was based on the Digital Image Correlation Method (DIC) and taken at 196 points on the two side surfaces of each of the test prisms. The results obtained by the optical measurement were first compared with those obtained using the traditional measurement, and shown to be compatible. Then, maps of displacements and deformations (presenting the behaviour of the structure during loading) were generated.
