ABSTRACT

Elasto-abrasive finishing is a newly developed procedure for ultra-fine finishing of engineering surfaces in the micro/nano range, without altering the basic surface form. As the name indicates, it is an abrasive-based methodology using specially developed elasto-abrasive balls or spheres. The elastoabrasive balls discussed in this chapter refer to abrasive embedded elastomeric beads in the form of spherical balls of meso-/micro-scale dimensions. Elastoabrasives in the form of balls (diameter in the range of 3 to 4 mm) are easy to handle and have the advantages of both loose as well as bonded abrasive particles. This allows them to be used for multiple applications based on abrasion as well as erosion approaches.
