Finishing is the final machining operation performed to obtain a good quality surface integrity. Various finishing processes can be classified into two classes: (a) traditional finishing processes (viz., grinding, honing and lapping) and (b) advanced finishing processes (viz., abrasive flow finishing [AFF], rotational AFF, centrifugal-force-assisted abrasive flow machining process, magnetorheological AFF, etc.). A process is selected based on the level of accuracy required and the conditions to which the workpiece is subjected during finishing. The magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) process is one of the advanced finishing processes used for finishing internal and external surfaces ranging from simple to complex shaped workpiece surfaces.
