ABSTRACT

Introduction

The population is growing all over the world and humans live longer and healthier lives than just a generation ago (Coughlin, 2007). Also, the population's mobility has increased with globalization. These two aspects implicate a larger number of older drivers, which presents a great challenge to develop and adapt our society to maintain safety (Rosenbloom, 2004). Previous research has found that typically crashes involving older driver often include another vehicle and occur at left-turn intersections with heavy traffic, which impose a high visual load and substantial demands on perceptive and cognitive skills (Oxley et al., 2006; Skying et al., 2009; Viano and Ridella, 1996; Villalba et al., 2001).
