ABSTRACT

Human system analysts (HSAs) view system design from the perspective of the human operators of the system. Because the objectives of the various groups may conflict, the HSAs' design objectives are more likely to be implemented if a holistic approach is used to incorporate the objectives of the other disciplines as well. Developed by the United States Army Research Laboratory (ARL), improved performance research integration tool (IMPRINT) is a dynamic, stochastic, discrete event simulation tool that can be used to quantify the effect of human operator performance on system performance. By connecting the capability of IMPRINT and multimodal information design support tool, ARL provided analysts with the capability of implementing a multidisciplinary approach. After successfully achieving a multidisciplinary, multi-system analytical approach, the final step analysis need for a holistic analytical approach is consideration of the human operators and the proposed system as a part of a larger system of systems.
